Local Moving in Silver Spring
A Moving Company That Knows Silver Spring, MD
Silver Spring is two different moving jobs wearing one name. Downtown, the towers around the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center fill with renters, and a move there runs on a reserved freight elevator, a certificate of insurance, and a shared loading dock off Ripley Street. A mile out in any direction, the job becomes a 1920s bungalow on Thayer Avenue or a brick colonial in Woodside Park, where the hard part is a boxed-in staircase and a porch that has seen a century of sofas.
We move both every week. The Ripley District and Fenton Village keep adding high-rise addresses like Solaire 1150 Ripley and Eleven55 Ripley, and The Blairs campus alone holds about 1,400 apartments. East Silver Spring and North Woodside carry the bungalow and cape streets. Four Corners and Woodmoor add Cape Cods built from the late 1930s through the 1950s. Long Branch and White Oak are garden-apartment territory, third-floor walkups with no elevator to reserve. Follow Colesville Road and New Hampshire Avenue out toward Colesville and Cloverly and it turns to ranches and split-levels with real yards.
Turnover here never really slows. About 81,000 people live in Silver Spring and roughly six in ten households rent, so leases roll over all year. FDA’s White Oak campus keeps around 10,000 employees close by, and NOAA renewed its lease downtown. The arts and entertainment district, with the AFI Silver, the Fillmore and the shops on Ellsworth Drive, keeps pulling new tenants into the towers.
Our crews start at our Rockville HQ, a short run up Georgia Avenue or around the Beltway, and travel is billed in 30-minute increments, so a Silver Spring move carries one of the smaller travel charges on our rate card.

What’s In the Rate
What Your Hourly Rate Includes and How You’re Protected
An experienced W-2 crew, a 26-ft box truck, and the protective gear (moving blankets, protective tools, hand trucks and dollies) are all part of the hourly rate, along with gas, tolls and mileage. We are the movers, not a broker reselling your job.
Local moves bill by the hour with a two-hour minimum, and travel time is billed in 30-minute increments. Your written estimate spells out the hourly rate, the expected hours, and the travel charge before move day. The number you see is the number you plan around.
We bill travel in 30-minute increments from our Rockville lot, and most Silver Spring jobs sit within a couple of increments round trip.
Moving blankets, shrink wrap, floor and door-frame protection, plus disassembly and reassembly of furniture that needs it, all included in the rate rather than sold as add-ons.
AT Movers operates under USDOT #3455533 · MC #1126253. Verify us on the FMCSA carrier snapshot or the FMCSA’s Protect Your Move mover search. We carry $2 million in general liability, the level strict buildings ask for, and we send your building’s certificate of insurance before move day.
Basic released-value protection is included on every move at no charge, and full-value options are available for the declared value of your shipment. We put both in writing before move day so there are no surprises about what’s covered.
Settlement dates don’t line up, or renovations running late? We can hold your belongings securely between homes. Ask your coordinator about short-term storage when you book.

Parking, Permits & Building Access in Silver Spring
Parking & permits in Silver Spring
Silver Spring is unincorporated, so curb space runs through Montgomery County rather than a city hall. Downtown sits inside the county’s Silver Spring Parking Lot District, where most streets are metered and the garages are county-run. Reserving metered space for a moving truck goes through MCDOT’s Division of Parking Management at 240-777-8740, and a week of lead time is the safe assumption. The county does not publish a fee schedule for this, so we confirm the cost when the space is booked.
Many residential blocks near downtown fall under the county’s Residential Permit Parking program, and free 7-day temporary permits are available through the permit office at 240-777-8713. Tell us your block when you book and we plan the truck position with you ahead of time.
Managed buildings across the DMV often require a certificate of insurance before crews can load. We carry $2M in general liability and send your building’s COI before move day.

High-rise and condo moves in Downtown Silver Spring
Most managed towers downtown ask for two things before a crew rolls in: a freight-elevator reservation and a certificate of insurance from the mover. Those requirements are rarely posted publicly, so treat them as the default and confirm with your leasing office. We send the COI ahead of move day and carry the $2M liability coverage stricter managers want to see. The addresses we visit most sit in the Ripley District and along Blair Mill Road: Solaire 1150 Ripley, Eleven55 Ripley, The Cameron on Cameron Street, Kanso Silver Spring, and the 1,400-apartment Blairs campus. Dock space off Ripley and Bonifant streets is shared and scheduled, and with Purple Line construction still wrapping up downtown (MDOT MTA puts the opening in winter 2027), a dock slot you reserved beats a curb you hoped would be open.
Outside the towers the paperwork relaxes but the buildings push back. Garden apartments in Long Branch and White Oak mean stair carries, and the 1920s houses in Woodside Park and East Silver Spring have doorframes and banisters that predate the queen-size mattress. We wrap the woodwork on the way in, not after the first scuff.
Why Choose AT Movers in Silver Spring
Crews from Rockville, minutes out
Trucks start at our Kings Riding Way HQ, close enough that arrival windows hold and you are not paying a crew to cross the county before the first box moves.
Tower move-ins handled
Freight elevator booked, COI sent, dock slot confirmed. We run the downtown checklist before the truck ever leaves the lot.
Rates you can read first
$150 to $220 an hour by crew size, a two-hour minimum, and every add-on published before you book. The quote arrives in writing.
Studios and small jobs
Downtown is renter country. A two-mover crew covers a studio or one-bedroom tower move without a big-house price.
Family-owned carrier
Your crew works for AT Movers under USDOT #3455533. No brokered handoffs, one team from first box to final walkthrough.
Bungalow to high-rise
A Thayer Avenue bungalow, a Woodmoor cape and a Ripley Street tower are three different moves. We plan each one on its own terms.

How It Works
How Your Silver Spring Move Will Go
Three steps between your old address and the new one.

Planning & Estimate
Start with the quote form and tell us what you are moving. We set the crew size, put the hourly rate and travel time in writing, and work through the Silver Spring checklist: elevator reservation, COI for the building, and a curb or dock plan if your block is metered or sits in a permit zone.

Packing & Loading
The crew protects doorways and floors first, then wraps furniture in blankets and stretch film. Garden-apartment stairs in Long Branch get a steadier carry rhythm, and tower jobs run on the dock schedule, so we stage boxes by the elevator before the reserved slot opens.

Drive & Unload
Crosstown hops are short here. East Silver Spring to a downtown tower is minutes on Fenton Street, so your paid time goes into placing furniture rather than sitting in traffic. We reassemble what we took apart and walk every room with you before the clock stops.

Frequently Asked Questions
Two movers and a truck run $150 an hour, three run $180, and four run $220, with a two-hour minimum. As estimates, a studio usually lands between $450 and $750 and a two-bedroom between $900 and $1,540. For an outside benchmark, moveBuddha’s Silver Spring estimates (accessed August 2026) run from $414 for a studio to about $3,036 for a large house, so our ranges sit inside the local norm. Full details are on our pricing page.
The crew and truck are reserved for two hours even if the job wraps up faster, which mostly matters for single-item and studio jobs. After that, billing is hourly, plus travel in 30-minute increments from our Rockville lot to your pickup and from the drop-off back. Smaller Silver Spring jobs often land in the $300 to $400 range once the minimum and travel are counted.
Nearly every managed tower does, from the Blairs campus to the newer Ripley District buildings. The requirements are rarely posted publicly, so confirm with your leasing office and give us the building name when you book. We send the certificate of insurance ahead of time and carry the $2M coverage most managers ask for.
It depends on the block. Downtown’s metered streets fall under the county’s Silver Spring Parking Lot District, and reserving metered space goes through MCDOT Parking at 240-777-8740 with about a week of lead time. Residential blocks in permit zones can use free 7-day temporary permits from the county. We sort this out during booking so move-day morning is just loading.
Yes, and downtown that is a big share of our work. A two-mover crew finishes most studio and one-bedroom tower moves in an afternoon, and the same crews take single-item runs. If you want the boxes handled too, our packing service covers materials and packing labor.
Yes. When a lease ends before the next one starts, we load once, hold your things in our clean, controlled facilities, and deliver when the new place is ready. Tell us the gap dates and we quote both legs and the storage in one written estimate.
Long-distance moves switch from hourly billing to a flat written price for the whole lane, fuel and tolls included. Silver Spring sits right on the Beltway, which makes it an easy launch point for our interstate lanes. Current routes and typical prices are on our long-distance moving page.
