How Long-Distance Pricing Works
A move inside the DMV is billed by the hour. An interstate move is not. Once your shipment crosses a state line we quote one flat rate for the whole job, and that number is built from your inventory, not from a clock.
What moves that number is your inventory, the access at both addresses, and the date you pick. A fourth-floor walk-up takes more crew hours than a townhouse with a driveway, and the same load costs more in July than it does in February.
The rate covers the crew, the truck, fuel, mileage and every toll on the route. Packing labor and materials are quoted separately, so you can pack yourself and keep that off the bill.
You get the number before move day, not after. Each of our route pages lists the ranges we have actually quoted on that lane.

Your Own Truck, and the Same Crew at Both Ends
Two questions decide whether a long-distance quote means anything. Is the company on the phone the company that shows up, and does your furniture stay on one truck.
A Carrier, Not a Broker
We hold our own interstate household goods authority under USDOT #3455533 and MC #1126253, and you can look both up on the FMCSA site. Your job does not get sold on to whoever bids lowest that week.
A Truck to Itself
Your shipment rides on one truck from our fleet of 26-foot box trucks and sprinter crews. It is not combined with other households, so it never waits in a warehouse for a load heading your way.
The Same Crew at Both Ends
It is never handed to a second company at a state line. The movers who wrap your sofa in DC are the ones who carry it up the stairs at the other end.

Federal law gives you both options on any interstate move, and we put them in writing before you book. Every interstate mover is also required to hand you the FMCSA booklet "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move," and we do.
We carry $2 million in general liability, which is the figure most DC and Arlington buildings name on a certificate of insurance. We issue those certificates at no charge.

Why Delivery Dates Vary So Much Between Quotes
Ask three companies how long the same move takes and the answers can be weeks apart. That spread is almost never about how fast anyone drives.
A carrier moving your household on its own truck can name the day, because nothing else has to happen first.
A company consolidating several households into one trailer depends on when that trailer fills and which order the stops fall in.
We quote a date. On the short lanes out of DC, that is same day or next day.

Parking in the District
In the District you need an Emergency No Parking permit from DDOT to hold space for the truck. It costs $50 through the TOPS portal, and the signs have to go up 72 hours ahead on an unmetered block, 24 hours on a metered one. We file these as a matter of course.
Building Rules
Building RulesBuildings add rules of their own. Most want the freight elevator booked ahead, many restrict which hours a move can run, and plenty want a certificate of insurance on file before the crew gets past the lobby.
What happens at the other end changes city by city, so each route page covers the destination rules separately.
