Every charge on a local move
A local move inside DC, Maryland and Virginia is billed in two parts: the movers by the hour, and the truck for the drive to you and back to our lot. Everything else that can appear on your bill is in this table.
| Charge | Price | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Movers | $150, $180 or $220 per hour | For 2, 3 or 4 movers. You pay for at least 2 hours, even when the move takes less. |
| Truck | $150, $180 or $220 per hour | The truck costs the same per hour as your crew: $150 with 2 movers, $180 with 3, $220 with 4. Charged for travel: from our parking lot to your pickup address, and from your drop-off address back to the lot. Counted in 30-minute steps, 1-hour minimum. |
| Already in the hourly rate | No extra charge | Gas, tolls, mileage, basic insurance and taxes. Moving blankets, hand trucks and dollies. Loading, unloading, taking furniture apart and putting it back together. |
| Stairs | $25 per floor, per mover | For each floor above the 2nd. Three movers carrying to a 4th floor is 2 floors x 3 movers x $25 = $150. |
| Heavy item | $100 | Per item that weighs over 200 pounds. |
| Piano or safe | $250 | Per piano or safe. |
| Floor protection | $100 | Covering for the floors at your home, if you ask for it. |
| Junk disposal | $100 minimum + $25 per item | We take away things you do not want to move. |
| Packing materials | By item | Bring your own, or buy boxes, tape and wrap from us. Prices are on the packing page. |
| Card or PayPal payment | 5% | Added to payments by credit card, debit card or PayPal. |
| Deposit | Part of your total | Holds your date and counts toward the final bill. It is not refundable. Moving your date to another day costs $50 each time. |
Crossing a state line
The hourly rates and the truck fee above apply to moves that stay inside DC, Maryland and Virginia. Once your move crosses a state line the billing changes. We quote one flat rate for the whole job and agree it before you book, so the number on your confirmation is the number you pay.
We build that rate from what you are moving, how the crew gets in and out at both ends, and when you want to go. We go through your inventory with you item by item. Stairs, long carries from the truck and booked elevator slots all cost crew hours, so the access at both addresses matters as much as the volume. The date matters too, because summer is the busiest part of our year and midwinter is the quietest.
Crew time, the truck, fuel, mileage and road tolls all sit inside that one number. Nothing is added at delivery, and you are not billed for distance on top. Packing labor and materials are quoted on their own, and so is storage if your closing dates leave a gap.
| Route from DC | Starting flat rate | Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Baltimore | $700 | Same day, door to door |
| Philadelphia | $700 | Same-day or next-day |
| New York City | $900 | Same-day or next-day delivery |
| North Carolina | $1,100 | 1 to 3 days (same-day for close metros) |
| Raleigh | $1,100 | 1 to 3 days (next-day for small loads) |
| Charlotte | $1,100 | 1 to 3 days (next-day for small loads) |
| Maine | $1,500 | Next-day to Portland |
| Boston | $1,600 | Next-day on most moves |
| Chicago | $1,800 | Typically 2 to 4 days |
| Tampa | $1,900 | 2-3 days (next-day team-driver option) |
| Miami | $2,100 | 2 to 4 days |
| Austin | $2,600 | 4 to 9 days |
| Dallas | $2,600 | 3 to 8 days |
| Los Angeles | $2,700 | 4 to 6 days of driving |
These are starting prices for the smallest moves on each lane. What you actually pay depends on your inventory, and each route page carries the full range by home size.
You get a flat rate in writing before you book, not an hourly estimate that grows on the day. It comes with the two cover levels federal law requires us to offer: Released Value at 60 cents per pound per item, included at no cost, or Full Value Protection for the declared value of your shipment.
