If your DC street needs reserved curb space, the District requires an Emergency No Parking permit from DDOT — $50 through the TOPS portal, with signs posted 72 hours ahead on unmetered blocks (24 hours on metered ones). Delivering in Portland & Across Maine
Maine is an easier delivery than a big metro in most ways, but Portland has a few rules worth knowing before move day.
Reserving space for the truck. To hold curb or metered space for a 26-foot truck in Portland, the city issues a Street Occupancy Permit: $35 per 20-foot space, applied for 3 to 10 business days ahead, with the No Parking signs posted at least one business day before your move so the spots can be enforced. Skip it and the fine runs $125 a day. We pull the permit and post the signs for you. Here is the city’s street occupancy page if you want the specifics.
Buildings and COIs. Portland does not enforce certificates of insurance the way New York does, but newer downtown developments, Old Port lofts, and managed condo associations increasingly ask for one, usually $1M per occurrence and sometimes $2M. We carry $2 million in liability and file the COI with your building at no charge.
Winter and mud season. From about November through April, Portland declares snow parking bans that clear the streets for plows, and every spring MaineDOT posts weight limits on secondary roads during the freeze-thaw. Both change how and when a loaded truck can reach your door in South Portland, Falmouth, Scarborough, Brunswick, or out toward Augusta and Bangor, so we plan the delivery window around them.
