Curb space is the first thing we settle on an Arlington move, because very little of it is free. When the truck needs a guaranteed spot, the county issues a Moving Van/Container permit through its Permit Arlington portal. Apply at least five business days before your start date. The application wants the truck’s dimensions, the ID numbers of any parking meters it will block, and a photo of the exact spot on the street, and the county’s fees have to be paid before the permit is emailed to you. A moving van can hold the space for up to two consecutive days. DES Permitting and Inspections takes questions on 703-228-3629, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where the truck sits matters as much as the paperwork. The county requires a permitted vehicle to park against the curb, out of the travel lane, clear of hydrants, stop signs and neighbors’ driveways, and no closer than 20 feet from a corner, with reflective cones or tape around it. If your block sits inside a Residential Permit Parking zone, the posted zone hours govern everything else on the street, so tell us your zone when you book and we will time the crew to it.
Managed buildings across the DMV often require a certificate of insurance before crews can load. We carry $2M in general liability and send your building’s COI before move day.
Apartment, condo and co-op moves in Arlington
Arlington buildings do not agree with each other about moving, so the first thing we do is read yours. River Place North in Rosslyn sits at the strict end: every move goes through the loading dock, the freight elevator has to be reserved in advance, the slot runs three hours at most, and the co-op charges $50 non-refundable plus a $200 refundable deposit. Moves run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at weekends.
Nearby, Colonial Village II runs the other way: no scheduling through the office and no move fees, though moves still have to fall between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. Its neighbors in the same 1930s garden district police the truck instead, keeping vans off the curbs, sidewalks and lawns and sending residents to the county for street-side loading reservations.
Move-in fees are ordinary here, and Virginia does not cap them. State law only requires that a charge falling on fewer than all owners be a fee for services, tied to common-area use, or allowed by statute (Va. Code 55.1-1904, with 55.1-1805 covering HOAs). Ask your management office for the fee schedule in writing before move day.
Most Arlington towers publish nothing at all. The Central Place pair in Rosslyn, 4040 Wilson Boulevard in Ballston, Metropolitan Park Jasper in Pentagon City, The Grace and The Reva in Crystal City: none post move rules publicly, because those rules sit with the concierge. So we ask instead. Send your move-in packet when you book and the crew works to it.

A license number you cannot look up is the biggest. Any legitimate mover will give you a USDOT number, and you can check it on the FMCSA’s Protect Your Move search before paying a deposit.
